Embezzlement Probe puts Top German Officials Under Corruption Microscope

Germany’s vice chancellor, foreign minister and four others are under investigation by the Berlin public prosecutor’s office – focusing on their activities in 2020. (Der Spiegel)

VC & finance/climate chief Robert Habeck and FM Annalena Baerbock are the most high-profile figures at the center of the Green Party embezzlement probe – accused of awarding themselves so-called ‘Covid bonuses’ of €1,500 ($1,700) per person.

All suspects except one are MPs in the Bundestag, which gives them immunity until any official charges are brought.
