LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An arson suspect was shot by a Louisville Metro Police officer during an arrest attempt in the Beechmont neighborhood Thursday afternoon, the department said in a statement.
LMPD was called out to assist Louisville Metro Fire’s Arson Unit on Ashland Avenue after the suspect in a “domestic-violence related arson” fled investigators, spokeswoman Beth Ruoff said.
Police officers located the suspect, who Ruoff said was armed with a knife. “A struggle ensued, during which time an LMPD officer shot the suspect after attempting to use less-lethal force,” she said.
MetroSafe officials initially reported the suspect had been shot by a member of the Arson Unit.
This is the second time an LMPD officer has shot in a suspect in recent days. On Tuesday, a man was shot by a Louisville police officer outside the Walmart Supercenter off Bashford Manor Lane after a car chase.
