Dispute Over Woman Leads to Shooting Outside Walmart; Suspect Arrested in Mississippi

On February 24, 2026 shortly after 10:00 p.m., deputies with the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting outside a Walmart along La. 1 in Port Allen, Louisiana. Upon arrival, deputies located one person suffering from a gunshot wound.

Authorities said the victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to investigators, 29-year-old Caleb Harris fled the scene following the shooting. Deputies later determined that Harris and the victim knew each other and that the incident stemmed from a dispute involving a woman who was also present at the time. Deputies said the woman was shot at but was not struck.

Officials confirmed that the victim, Harris, and the woman were all Walmart employees who had just gotten off work prior to the shooting.

Harris was located and arrested in Lamar County, Mississippi. He has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated second-degree battery, and illegal use of weapons. Authorities said he is awaiting extradition back to West Baton Rouge Parish.
