Perth Detectives are seeking information regarding an out of control gathering in West Leederville last night, Friday 8 July 2022, during which several people were injured.
About 10:55pm several calls were made to police reporting a group of about 20 youths fighting outside a youth centre on Cambridge Street.
Upon arrival it was established an altercation had earlier occurred inside the venue involving a group of people, leaving several of the group injured.
About 200-300 people were leaving the venue as officers arrived.
Additional police units were deployed to the scene and the situation was declared an ‘out of control gathering’.
Those people so far identified as being injured during the incident include:
- A 16-year-old male struck across the nose and cheeks with what was believed to be a machete.
- A 16-year-old male struck on the hand with a bladed weapon and further struck on the arm with a bat.
- A 16-year-old female struck across the arm (blunt force injury by an unknown weapon).
- A 15-year-old male struck across the head with an unknown weapon, causing a laceration.
- An 18-year-old man struck with various weapons and had his head stomped on.
A WA Police Force spokesperson encouraged anyone with information regarding the identity of the people involved to come forward and provide the information.
“This was a violent incident carried out by people who were armed with dangerous weapons. We know there are people out there who know who those people are and we encourage them to come forward with that information.
This kind of violence is not acceptable and those responsible need to be identified and taken off the streets before they harm anyone else.”
