North Carolina – A manhunt was underway Friday after a Wake County deputy was shot and killed in southeastern Wake County.
Law enforcement from multiple agencies were stationed along Battle Bridge Road near Auburn Knightdale Road, near southeast Raleigh, before 2 a.m
Sheriff Gerald Baker held an emotional press conference, speaking tearfully, to announce the deputy’s death, which was believed to have occurred after 11 p.m. Thursday night. Baker shared limited information but asked for prayers.
“We will find who’s responsible for this loss even in the midst of the hurt and the pain,” Baker said.
Limited information was available about the shooting.
Law enforcement were flying a drone above the area to get an aerial view, where a manhunt for the shooter was underway.
The deadly shooting comes just 10 days after a Wayne County deputy was shot and killed in an hours-long standoff.
A funeral was held Tuesday for Sgt. Matthew Fishman, a husband and father of two.
Six deputies have been shot in North Carolina in the last three weeks.
