The sheriff’s office announced the arrest of Kelli Starling, 37, and Daniel Miller, 48, during a press conference on Thursday.
They are both charged with negligent manslaughter of a child. Miller is also charged with possession of Fentanyl.
Daltin died on March 1. He was found in his parent’s bedroom where drugs were found easily accessible to a toddler.
In his system, the medical examiner found Fentanyl, meth, and Xylazine.
Daltin was born with drugs in his system and was immediately placed into the care of his aunt and uncle. In February, the Department of Children and Families (DFC) placed Daltin back into the care of his father, Miller, under the condition he does not have contact with Starling due to her drug addiction.
Despite the restriction, Starling returned to the home.
The toddler’s family has called for the DCF caseworkers involved to be held responsible for the decision to return Daltin to his biological parents.
