DEADLY DEPUTY-INVOLVED SHOOTING
He said, around 10:30 a.m., deputies were dispatched to Garrett Road near Florence for a medical call.
He said they got another call saying there was a disturbance at this home and there was a man there with active warrants on aggravated domestic violence charges.
The sheriff says when deputies got to the home, the suspect fired at them. They returned fire, killing the man.
A news release identified the suspect as Shannon McKinley, 28. It says he was in the attic when deputies arrived and when he climbed out he pulled a gun on them.
Since this is a deputy-involved shooting, MBI took over the crime scene and the case.
This is the second deadly deputy-involved incident in Rankin County in less than a month.
On July 26, Damien Cameron was taken into custody at his grandmother’s home on Foote Drive and died while in the custody for deputies.
His cause of death has not been released. MBI is over that case as well.
