The Omaha division of the Drug Enforcement Administration has arrested 29 people in Iowa in the last year with connections to two drug cartels as part of its campaign “Operation Last Mile.”
So far, the DEA’s Omaha office made 87 arrests and seized 60 firearms across its five-state region with links to the Jalisco and Sinaloa cartels.
All of those cases, according to the DEA, are sealed. But, those arrested face drug and gun state and federal charges. DEA says its top priority is stopping drug trafficking from these two cartels.
“Drug trafficking is a violent activity that threatens our Midwestern communities on a daily basis,” DEA Omaha Division Special Agent in Charge Justin C. King said in a press release.
“The news is full of stories detailing the number of lives lost to drug poisonings and violent acts that came as a direct result of drug trafficking.
These crimes, perpetuated by the Sinaloa and Jalisco Cartels, are not victimless as evident by the tragic loss of life to toxic substances being pushed into our neighborhoods.”
