Shocking footage shows the moment an irate Florida dad sucker punched an unsuspecting umpire — who is a military veteran — during his son’s high school baseball game last month.

Jorge Ignacio Aponte-Gonzalez, 41, threw the haymaker after his son began to mouth off at the popular umpire during the contest, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

ā€œThe umpire is obviously going to maintain control of the game,ā€ said Osceola County Sheriff Marco Lopez. ā€œBecause that is what they are there to do. To make sure kids learn all about sportsmanlike conduct.ā€

Lopez said the umpire — whose name was not released but who is 63 years old — told the youth to compose himself.

ā€œThe kid was being disruptive, so the umpire’s like, ā€˜Hey, tone it down,’ maintaining control,ā€ Lopez said. ā€œThey went back and forth a little bit. I don’t know exactly what was exchanged, but… that is what upset the father.ā€

After the confrontation, the umpire walked over to a gate near the Kissimmee field to wait for a colleague to relieve him for a few innings, as is routine.
