Trevor Hurd, known as Crip Mac, a YouTuber and rapper, was arrested in LA County court on federal gun charges.
This arrest occurred just after an LA County judge had dropped state gun charges against him.
Hurd, 30, was immediately taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and informed that his case had been transferred to federal court.
The indictment, which was unsealed shortly before his arrest, charged Hurd with being a felon in possession of an unregistered weapon and ammunition.
It detailed his criminal history, including multiple arrests since 2014 for offenses such as armed robbery, grand theft, and drug transportation.
California defense attorney Curtis Briggs, not involved in the case, explained that federal authorities often take over state criminal cases, especially for repeat offenders.
He noted that this could lead to more severe penalties, including the possibility of life imprisonment if Hurd is implicated in a larger gang conspiracy and RICO case.
Hurd is currently held in pretrial custody, with his next hearing scheduled for December 11.
