RawNews1st – Police in Chicago said Friday that they are making progress in their search for the shooter who killed a 7-year-old boy on Wednesday night.
Around 8:22 p.m. Wednesday, authorities responded to reports of a person shot in the 2600 block of West Potomac Avenue and discovered the boy, Akeem Briscoe, inside a residence with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
According to police, a family member told officers that the boy was washing his hands in the bathroom when a stray bullet passed through a window and struck him.
The boy was taken to Stroger Hospital and died after surgery late Wednesday night. The boy’s father had recently died as a result of open heart surgery.
Outside the house, a memorial is growing.
Police have stated that they are interviewing a number of people but have not identified any as “persons of interest.” There is no one in custody, according to police.
Surveillance cameras in the area could provide information.
Adding to the sadness of a family that has been through so much in recent weeks. Akeem’s father died recently following open heart surgery.
There are no suspects in the shooting, according to police. Anyone with information that could lead to an arrest is eligible for a $2,000 reward.
