Police are looking for a suspect who stole a USPS truck Saturday afternoon after attempting to assault a mail carrier on the city’s West Side.

A 28-year-old mail carrier was entering a mail truck in the 2801 block of South Pulaski Road around 9:50 a.m. when she encountered an individual inside, according to police.

According to police, the person attempted to assault her, but she was able to flee without incident.

The suspect then stole the truck and fled southbound on Pulaski Road.

Police pursued the truck at high speeds through the Southwest Side until it was discovered abandoned in an alley in the 4525 block of Marquette Road.

The postal worker was taken to Saint Anthony Hospital for observation. There were no reported injuries.

The driver may have been intoxicated, according to police.
