A 12-year-old girl died after her mother and stepfather didn’t seek medical attention after she’d received life-threatening injuries, instead they gave her smoothies to try and heal her.
Miranda Sipps was a cheerleader at Jourdanton Junior High School. She was pronounced dead in the emergency room after emergency responders met her mother on the highway, after the mom decided to call 911 four days after her child had received the life-threatening injuries, according to NBC News.
“She was not talking. She basically could flutter her eyes and move her hands a little bit over a four-day period,” said Sheriff David Soward, according to NBC News. “And they had her laying on a pallet in the house.”
According to NBC News, Soward said that the 12 year old’s parents tried to treat her injuries through smoothies with vitamins.
The mother, 36-year-old Denise Balbaneda, and the stepfather, 40-year-old Gerald Gonzales, were arrested on Tuesday and charged with a first-degree felony for injury to a child by omission.
