A couple has been arrested after going into the Okmulgee Police department to talk about their 7 week old daughter, having 7 broken ribs and a broken vertebrae.
The affidavits for Cheyenne Crites and Russell McCarty say the couple went to the police station on September 19th because their daughter had been in the hospital for a few days and child protective services had taken their kids and he needed to come clean about what happened and needed help.
It says a few days earlier, Crites woke up to her daughter screaming on the floor and McCarty yelling, “oh my God, no.”
Crities says McCarty told her, he fell asleep with the baby on his chest and the baby rolled off onto the floor.
Crites said the baby seemed fine so they went to a park, but, when they were leaving, she heard a crack in the baby’s back and said they should take her to the hospital.
She says McCarty didn’t want to and begged Crites to tell the hospital, one of Crites’ young sons had jumped on the baby and caused the injuries and Crites agreed.
It says after the hospital found numerous fractures, Crites started
wondering what really happened and asked McCarty, who admitted some of the injuries were “intentional.”
It says Crites told police, he gets angry when the baby is crying and grabs her hard from her chair and squeezes her hard on the chest and didn’t know his own strength and when he burps her, he hits her too hard and he’s been doing this since they brought the baby home from the hospital.
He’s charged with abuse and she’s charged with enabling abuse. .
These are charges, not convictions.
