RawNews1st – Veteran officers say this is one of the worst child abuse cases they’ve seen in many years.
Tulsa Police arrested a couple accused of repeatedly abusing a 13 year old girl and her 11 year old brother and possibly killing the boy 2 years ago and no one knew it.
Police say no one has seen the boy for two years and his sister says he was murdered in March of 2021.
Police say the 13 year old girl was sent to live with her grandmother recently and the grandmother asked where the girl’s brother was and the girl said, the boy was dead, that her mother and step father had killed him.
Police arrested John Miles and Camille Lewis.
The arrest report says the girl reported she and her brother were locked into separate closets for weeks, even months at at time.
It says the children weren’t given food and water for days on end and were beaten repeatedly with belts, cords and wire hangars, leaving scars all over them.
It says the children were forced to use the restroom in a cup or bag in their closets.
It says the girl went a year without a shower or washing her hair.
It says in order to get food or go to the bathroom or shower, the girl had to do sexual favors for Miles.
The girl told police her mother told her, the little boy died from a seizure in March of 2021.
The girl says from her closet, she could hear the parents yelling at the boy to wake up, but he didn’t and her mother told her, Miles and his cousin buried the boy in a nearby park.
She says, they worried it was too shallow, so dug him up and brought him back to the house where they burned his body in a barrel.
The report says the mother told the girl, they had to turn his body several times in the barrel and once burned, they dumped the ashes in the drainage system.
Police say Lewis admitted she withheld food from the children and beat them but denied her son’s death.
The report says Lewis told police the boy ran away in the fall of 2022 and after searching for about a week, they quit looking and never called police.
She said they told family members, the boy was at a cousin’s house.
It says family members haven’t seen the boy for about two years and he’s not been in school.
Detectives tell us they are treating this case as a homicide. Miles was the step-dad to these two children but he and Lewis have three children of their own as well.
The report says Miles denied any knowledge of any abuse.
During search warrants, police found one closet had new carpet and padding in it, but the other one had stains of urine and feces.
Police found handwritten notes the 13 year girl wrote, that said:
- “Smile whenever I come out if it’s a good time.”
- When I am fed, tell Momma, “Thank you for taking time out to buy me this, make it and bring it to me.”
- When she brings me water, say, “Thank you for taking my bottle and refilling it for me every day.”
- When she lets me out to go to the bathroom, tell her, “Thank you for opening the door to let me use the bathroom and wash my hands.”
- When she talks to me, say, “Thank you for spending your time talking to me because I know you could be doing something else.”
-She told police she wrote the notes to appease her mother so she could get food, water, time out of the close and avoid some punishment.
