Corey R. Davis, 26, was arrested in connection with the shooting that happened at the corner of Decatur and Spain streets.
He was booked with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, domestic abuse aggravated assault, aggravated criminal damage to property, felon in possession of a firearm, illegal use of a weapon and theft of a motor vehicle.
NOPD VOWS, U.S. Marshals and NOPD Child Abuse Unit detectives located Davis today at a location in the Fifth District. Davis was arrested without incident, they say.
NOPD officers were called to a local hospital Saturday afternoon when a one-year-old was brought there with multiple gunshot wounds. They identified Davis – who is the baby’s father – as a person of interest.
Davis was later determined to be the perpetrator in this incident, and a warrant was obtained for his arrest, police say.
NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said “this is another unfortunate incidence of violence in our city that was found to be domestic in nature, and also where a child – in this case, a 1-year-old infant shot by his own father – was the victim of a tragic, senseless and violent crime.
