Annabelle is an endless source of fascination on social media, according to her handlers, because of the haunting stories that surround the doll.

Dan Rivera, a Connecticut paranormal investigator and one of the handlers of the famed Annabelle doll, died suddenly over the weekend, according to the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR).

Rivera, a Connecticut native, has cared for the doll made famous by “The Conjuring” movie series that was based on the work of Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Rivera was part of a group from the NESPR on tour with the Annabelle doll in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania this weekend, according to Facebook posts from the organization.

It’s not clear how he died.

Note: The Annabelle doll is a supposedly haunted Raggedy Ann doll housed in the now-closed Occult Museum of the paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

It was moved there after supposed hauntings in 1970.

The story of Annabelle served as the inspiration for the Annabelle doll character featured in The Conjuring Universe, a film series that includes movies like Annabelle (2014), Annabelle: Creation (2017), and Annabelle Comes Home (2019). The doll in the films has a significantly different appearance from the real Raggedy Ann doll.
