According to the department, officers got wind of a planned takeover in Roselawn near the intersection of Paddock Road and Interstate 75 in the early hours of Sunday morning.
As police arrived at the scene, they said they observed disorderly driving near the intersection. Police said that one person was arrested on site, while dozens of other drivers fled the area as officers moved in.
Afterwards, police said that the group traveled across the city to an area in the East End just outside of Riverfront Live, the venue of a recent mass shooting that left nine people injured and resulted in the arrest of two people in early March.
CPD officers again arrived to the scene, where the disorderly activity was once more disbanded from outside of Riverfront Live.
After that, police said the group traveled across town once more to a site near the original takeover scene, converging on the parking lot of Woodward Career Technical High School in Roselawn, where the overwhelming majority of the mass arrests reportedly occurred.
None of the 39 who were arrested have yet been publicly identified. It also remains unclear what charges they may be facing.
In a statement, the Cincinnati Police Department praised all of its officers who were involved in apprehending the suspects, saying that they “commend the coordinated efforts of its officers and the assisting agencies whose teamwork helped bring this incident to a safe and controlled conclusion.”
The incident remains under investigation by Cincinnati police.
