China’s Olympics App Privacy Warning: Athletes Warned Against Going Political
The mandatory app tracking health and vaccination status for attendees and participants at the Beijing Olympics MIGHT leak data – according to cyber watchdog the Citizen Lab.
“The worst case scenario is that someone is intercepting all the traffic and recording all the passport details, all the medical details,” said Jeffrey Knockel, a research associate.
At the same time, a PRC Olympics official has warned athletes, “any behavior and speeches [… ] against Chinese laws and regulations” will be “subject to certain punishment.”
