China Threatens US with “Resolute Countermeasures” Over Beijing Olympic Boycott
China’s Foreign Ministry spox Zhao Lijian has warned US politicians to stop “grandstanding” with talk of boycotting of the Beijing Olympics, or risk facing “resolute countermeasures”.
The Biden administration has voiced considerations of a diplomatic boycott in protest over China’s human rights record, with CNN reporting expectations of a formal announcement to the effect this week.
Lijian warned such action might “influence dialogue and cooperation between China and the US in important areas”.
