China has officially banned the UK-based platform OnlyFans, known for its user-generated content, often featuring adult themes.

This action is part of Beijing’s broader campaign to tighten online content control, eliminate what it deems “immoral and corrupt Western garbage,” and reinforce “core socialist values”.

While OnlyFans had never been formally available in China, some creators and users accessed the platform using VPNs and third-party payment systems. However, this accessibility now appears to be shut down.

The ban adds to a series of crackdowns on foreign platforms, including Instagram and Reddit. China’s censorship policies, including the “Great Firewall,” restrict access to many foreign websites and services deemed inconsistent with its cultural and ideological standards.

This move has been met with mixed reactions. While authorities justify the ban as necessary to protect public morals and shield citizens from inappropriate or harmful content, some users express disappointment and concern about the economic consequences for content creators.
