Terrifying images have surfaced of a man accused of staring at young children playing in the water on a popular beach, crawling slowly out of a sewer pipe and talking to police.
The man, who was questioned by police attached to the Wollongong precinct on the south coast of NSW, was not arrested or charged on the spot, but was ordered to move on after reports of his ‘suspicious’ behaviour.
Concerned members of the public alerted police around 2 p.m. Wednesday after the man, believed to be in his thirties, was spotted in stormwater drains in the Belmore Basin in Wollongong, south of Sydney.

Kids played on the sand and water just yards away, with the area a popular community spot for families and locals alike.
It is not known why the man was in the sewer pipe.
A woman who reported the incident to police and filmed when officers arrived claimed the man was staring at children playing in the water.
Others suggested on TikTok, where the clip was shared, that the man could be homeless or have mental health issues.
Police confirmed that the man had not been arrested and charged with any criminal offence.
“Police were on the scene at Cove Beach and spoke to the man,” an officer from Wollongong Local Area Command told the Daily Mail Australia.
His actions were considered suspicious by others on the beach.
“After the man provided his details, he was given a verbal warning and instructed to leave the area, which he complied with.
“The police were convinced that his behavior did not endanger any member of the community.”
