The moment double murderer Gary Allen casually admitted he had killed a sex worker and “dumped her in the Humber” has been released by police.
Allen will be sentenced next week after being found guilty of murdering mother-of-three Samantha Class in Hull in 1997, and mother-of-four Alena Grlakova in Rotherham in 2018.
Allen, who has a self-professed hatred of women, was cleared of murdering Class in 2000, but the acquittal was overturned in 2019 after “compelling” new evidence came to light.
In a recording released by Humberside Police, Allen, while speaking to an undercover police officer, casually describes the murder of Class.
At no point in the discussion does he appear remorseful about his actions.
He can be heard saying he had sex with sex workers “about four or five times for a few years” when he was depressed.
He said while he was having sex with Class the condom split and she began making demands of him and threatening to go to the police.
In response, he says “so I strangled her and I dumped her in the Humber, I’m serious.”
In what appears to be a separate clip recorded after the first Allen again confesses to the murder.
He said: “That thing with that Samantha Class, as I say I told you about, the condom split and she said well if you don’t give me this that and the other and you don’t start giving me money and that I’m going to tell the police you raped me and I just flipped and I killed her and dumped her.
Grlakova’s body was found naked in a stream in Rotherham in April 2019, four months after she was last seen, on Boxing Day 2018. She had been strangled.
In what police called a “chilling” recording that Allen made of their conversation, he told Grlakova that if she came back to his flat after she had visited several times he would “beat the living shit out of her”.
The court heard how Allen attacked two sex workers in 2000 in Plymouth, just weeks after he was acquitted of Class’s murder.
After he was jailed for those attacks, he told a probation officer about his dislike of sex workers and women in general, saying: “I like to frighten them. I like to cause pain. I like to make them cry. I like blood. I like to hurt them. I enjoy it. It makes me feel good.”
The jury was told this was the “clearest possible admission” to his killing of Class.
Class left three children, Sophia, Aiden and Lewis.
Speaking outside court on Thursday, Sophia Class said: “For the people who suffered after my mum’s death, and most importantly for her, we finally have justice after 24 years.”
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Oughton, who led the investigation for South Yorkshire Police, said Allen was a “despicable, violent man”.
Allen denied killing either of the women but was found guilty of two counts of murder on Thursday after two days of deliberation by a jury which had heard eight weeks of evidence.
The judge, Mr Justice Goose, will sentence Allen on Wednesday.
