Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot begs Attorney General Merrick Garland for federal agents to fight gun violence
Lightfoot announced she submitted a request to the AG for more Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms agents for at least six months, after Chicago saw 767 murders this year — a 25-year high.
She also asked for more federal prosecutors and marshals to help local law enforcement get illegal guns off the streets.
The Democrat mayor last year slashed $59 million from the police budget following Black Lives Matter protests after the death of George Floyd. But has since denounced the “defund” movement amid out-of-control murder statistics.
