 A man was shot on North Avenue Beach Tuesday night, and, shortly after, three Chicago police officers were injured while breaking up a fight in nearby Old Town.
As Chicago officials try to crack down on summer crime and increase security at popular downtown spots like Millennium Park, one man is in the hospital after being shot and wounded by another man Tuesday night at North Avenue Beach.
The victim struck by gunfire was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in officials said. Updates on his condition were not immediately available.
One officer sustained scrapes and lacerations to the arms and was treated and released on scene. A second officer sustained swelling to the right eye and was also treated and released on scene.
About two hours after the shooting just a few blocks away, three officers were hurt while attempting to stop a fight.
At 10:51 p.m., officers were responding to a disturbance in the 1600 block of N. Wells when they were struck by a 16-year-old, officials say.
