According to an arrest report reviewed by PEOPLE, Clayton, then 20, shot Womack with a rifle she was using as prop while filming TikTok videos inside an apartment on May 23, 2023. The report states Womack died from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Mariah Clayton, now 21, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on March 8 in connection with the 2023 shooting death of 19-year-old Aniyah Womack, according to online court records. She was subsequently sentenced to five years in prison followed by five years of probation, the records show. 

Authorities said in the report that Womack was filming Clayton as she attempted to make TikTok videos where Clayton “popped out” of the shower while using the rifle as a prop. Then at some point, the rifle discharged and struck Womack, causing her death.

It wasn’t until five months later, in October 2023, that Clayton would be arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with Womack’s death.

Womack was remembered as a “social butterfly” by loved ones on a GoFundMe campaign created in the wake of her death. The fundraiser states Womack told her family she was with friends and would be returning home soon on the day she died.

“She was just such a bubbly person she would do anything for you,” her mother, Andrea Brown, told WJAX-TV after the deadly shooting. “We had the best relationship; she was my twin.”

Clayton expressed regret in a letter shared in court the day she pleaded guilty, calling the shooting “truly an accident,” First Coast News reported.

“I wake up every morning wishing I did everything different,” she wrote.

At least 20 people were injured when two trams collided in Strasbourg in eastern France, French media said on Saturday.

The Bas-Rhin region’s Fire and Rescue Service asked to avoid the area to facilitate access for emergency services.

The crash occurred after one of the trams switched tracks and collided with a stationary tram at Strasbourg’s central station, BFM TV said.

The Supreme Court said Friday it will review the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act’s no-cost coverage mandates for certain preventive care services, putting the landmark health care law in front of the justices again just as President-elect Donald Trump – who tried to repeal the law during his first presidency – returns to the White House.

While not an existential threat to Obamacare, the case could imperil access Americans have to cost-free preventive treatments and services, including HIV prevention medications, heart statins and various screenings for cancers and other diseases.

The cost of some of these preventive services can be substantial, which would deter some people – particularly those with lower incomes – from accessing the care and slow the early detection of potentially deadly illnesses.

The 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the mandates in question, based on the recommendations of the US Preventive Services Task Force, violated the Appointments Clause of the Constitution because its members are not appointed by the president with Senate confirmation.

The 5th Circuit’s ruling was directed at no-cost coverage requirements implemented after Obamacare’s enactment in March 2010.

The appellate ruling only blocked the mandates as applied to the challengers of the specific case, a Texas business and several individuals.

But both the Biden administration and the challengers agreed that the 5th Circuit’s precedent set the stage for another party to sue to block the mandates nationwide, and both sides had asked the Supreme Court to take up the case.

A Chicago man was arrested this week in connection to two armed robberies that occurred in November, according to police.

Frekoba Thompson, 34, faces two felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Nov. 7 just before 5 a.m. in the 6400 block of West Diversey Avenue, when Thompson and others allegedly robbed a 28-year-old woman at gunpoint.

Thompson is also charged in connection with the armed robbery of a 41-year-old man that occurred minutes later in the 6300 block of West Diversey Avenue.

Police arrested Thompson on Wednesday and charged him accordingly.

His detention hearing is scheduled for Friday.

The trio of perps boosted cars to use as getaway vehicles before each of the heists in upper Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens between Sept. 19 and Dec. 26, according to police. 

Inside the stores, they looted ATMs and other goods before bolting in various vehicles, authorities said. 

During two robberies in September, cops said the group got away with nearly $40,000 in cash from ATMs.

But police were unable to provide a total amount for all of the ATMs stolen.

On Dec. 23, surveillance cameras captured two of the perps around 1:20 a.m. removing wires from an ATM inside a grocery store at 75-10 31st Ave. in Jackson Heights, Queens, according to video released by the NYPD Friday. 

Cops are asking the public for any information about the three suspects involved in the citywide robbery pattern. Police have yet to make any arrests.

An aircraft carrying 175 passengers and six flight attendants has veered off the runway and crashed into a fence in South Korea, the Yonhap news agency reported on Sunday.

Yonhap said 23 casualties had been reported so far and that rescues were underway from Jeju Air flight 2216 from Bangkok.

Large plumes of smoke could be seen rising into the sky in early unverified images emerging on social media.

Emergency services received the call at Muan international airport in South Jeolla Province at around 9am.

Robert Brooks, 43, died a day after being attacked by several correctional officers at the Marcy Correctional Facility on Dec. 9. His death has prompted a state investigation.

The incident, which has drawn outrage from political leaders and was condemned by the officers’ union as “incomprehensible,” is being investigated by state Attorney General Letitia James. The inmate, Robert Brooks, 43, died in the hospital a day after the Dec. 9 attack.

The office of New York’s attorney general released body camera footage Friday showing the fatal beating of a state prisoner this month by correctional officers who punched and kicked him repeatedly while he was handcuffed on an infirmary bed.

“I do not take lightly the release of this video, especially in the middle of the holiday season,” James said at a virtual news conference.

“These videos are shocking and disturbing,” she added.

Brooks can be seen in the videos with his hands cuffed behind his back. In one video, he is sitting up as an officer presses his foot down on him. He is then punched by two officers.

At another point, he is forcefully yanked from the bed by his shirt collar and held up above the ground, his face visibly bloodied.

Last week, Gov. Kathy Hochul ordered the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision to begin the process of firing 14 workers at the Marcy Correctional Facility in Oneida County, where the incident occurred.

They include correctional officers, sergeants and a prison nurse. In the interim, all have been suspended without pay, except for one officer, who already resigned

You just never know.

However, this saying only goes so far, as one woman received a gift so ‘baffling’ that she ended up reporting the whole situation to HR.

So what sort of gift could be so ‘disgusting’ that it warrants a trip to speak to human resources? Something completely offensive or inappropriate?

Turns out it was something even more strange.

Unsure if she was being ungrateful or had a valid point with her reaction, the woman sought a second opinion from the internet.

“I’m really disappointed by it and tbh extremely confused,” she added.

Taking to the online forum Mumsnet, the woman shared images of each of the gifts she received alongside the comment: “Got my secret Santa today from work and tbh I’m disgusted by it.”

The woman went on to explain how her gifts included chocolates which were out-of-date, ‘manky old nail varnish’ and socks which appeared ‘worn’.

The woman wasn’t alone in her reaction either, with users overwhelmingly agreeing that it was unacceptable to gift a colleague used and out-of-date items.

Which to be fair, the gift is so bizarre that it feels like a wind-up or part of an elaborate practical joke.

“Blimey! What did other lucky employees get… or do you think someone’s trying to tell you something,” one person replied, while a second commented: “I think it’s crap they’ve found in their cupboard. Perhaps they forgot to buy anything and had to scramble around for something at the last minute. Pretty poor effort.”

Others speculated whether or not the gifter could be someone who was struggling for money, with one person writing: “I highly doubt someone opted to do this rather than spending a fiver in the shops.”

Practical joke or serious present aside, the original poster revealed later in the thread that she had spoken to HR about the gift.

“Management know and are just as disgusted. I would genuinely rather have had a cheap bar or chocolate than this,” she replied to one post.

Detroit police are investigating after a video shows a man chasing and grabbing an unknown-aged female.

According to police, officers responded to area of E. 7 Mile and Outer Drive on Wednesday 12/18, and were unable to make contact with the involved parties.

“Officers spoke to witnesses and reviewed the video of the incident. We are still currently investigating this matter,” Detroit police said.

According to witnesses, the man chased after her for several blocks. At this time, it’s unknown on what happened after the video stops. Bystanders jumped into action when they saw the situation unfolding.
