2-YEAR-OLD FENTANYL OVERDOSE — Two suspects arrested at the Studio Star Motel

On 2/22/2025 around 11:15 p.m., Officers responded to the Studio Star Motel near 4700 S. Braden for a report of a child overdosing on Fentanyl.

Officers, along with firefighters with the Tulsa Fire Department and paramedics from EMSA, responded to the motel room and found a 2-year-old male unresponsive and struggling to breathe.

Firefighters and paramedics administered Narcan to the 2-year-old, which immediately helped him regain consciousness and start to breathe again. The child was taken to the hospital.

The child’s mother, Jailynn Cormier, and her roommate, Kadin Hester, initially denied having any drugs in the motel room. Cormier and Hester eventually admitted to having Fentanyl.

Officers found small piles of Fentanyl on the floor around the room, including right next to where the 2-year-old had been lying. Officers also recovered drug paraphernalia and a large sum of cash.

Jailynn Cormier and Kadin Hester were both arrested for:

  • Trafficking Fentanyl
  • Drug Possession
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Drug Possession with Intent in the Presence of a Minor

Jailynn Cormier also has outstanding warrants out of Benton County, Arkansas.

The Tulsa Police Child Crisis Unit will complete a full investigation, and Cormier and Hester could face additional child neglect charges.

The 2-year-old child is expected to make a full recovery and will be placed in DHS custody.

This is an arrest, not a conviction.

Texas Middle Schoolers Given Tattoos in Classroom with Dirty Needle

Multiple teachers at a Greenville, Texas middle school have been suspended after students engaged in a mass tattooing session during class, using a dirty needle

The youngsters reportedly used temporary ink to carve one another’s bodies with the shared needle Tuesday, officials said, igniting concerns that they may have also injected themselves with disease.

“How is it that these kids are getting tattoos in class and not one teacher noticed it?” irate mother Ashley Armstrong fumed to Fox 4 News.

https://twitter.com/outbreakupdates/status/1896063342227460101?t=frRVuSmyjNpxhl1ZUByV8g&s=19

Armstrong’s 11-year-old son, Jordan, used the dirty needle to scrape “I heart my lord” across his entire forearm and “JC” on his hands on Tuesday while he was inside his classroom at Travis Intermediate in Greenville, roughly 50 miles northeast of Dallas.

Jordan claimed one boy approached him and offered to tattoo him. That needle was then “shared several times from one class to another class to another class,” Armstrong told the outlet.

The nurse called Armstrong to notify her of the alarming incident — and warned her to get bloodwork done immediately.

Fortunately, the tests came back negative for any diseases. Armstrong lectured Jordan — saying “he knows better” — but questioned how teachers allowed the underage tattoo session to go as far as it did.

“It’s with the needle, so I don’t care if it’s temporary ink or not,” Armstrong said.

“This can affect him, seriously affect him. I’m not letting up on any of that.”

Greenville ISD on Thursday confirmed the bizarre debacle, stating that it had suspended several teachers assigned to the classrooms where the incidents occurred as an investigation is underway.

“Greenville ISD is aware of an incident at Travis Intermediate School where students gave each other tattoos using temporary ink and the same needle,” the district said in a statement.

Around 9 a.m., police officers responded to the scene regarding an “accidental death” at 26 Rockford Court in Brandon, Mississippi. When officers arrived at the scene, Brandon Police said they became suspicious about the actual cause of death.

Investigators then determined the victim, 38-year-old Carri Gorrell, appeared to have died from a gunshot wound.

Her husband, 35-year-old Tyler Gorrell, has been arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and murder.

Brandon Police, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, and the Rankin County Coroner David Ruth were at the scene.

Tyler Gorrell made his initial appearance in Brandon Municipal Court, where he received a $2,050,000 bond, and learned that he was facing an additional two charges.

He faced two additional charges: tampering with physical evidence and directing or causing youth to commit a felony.

Brandon Police Chief Joseph French said the matter was still under investigation.

On February 25, 2025, Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney Bubba Bramlett announced that Tyler Gorrell pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and trafficking in a controlled substance.

During the investigation, Brandon Police discovered that Tyler Gorrell was on drugs at the time, and they removed multiple drugs from the home, including a large amount of lysergic acid diethylamide.

He will serve 30 years in prison with no possibility of early release.

The 15-year-old girl was reported missing from Harnett County on Wednesday morning. WTVD reports she was found Thursday morning in Dare County, along the coast.

WTVD, an ABC affiliate, reports that 32-year-old Elihue Martin Mahler of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and 24-year-old Austyn Lee Cole of Kitty Hawk face charges of felony human trafficking of a child victim, felony kidnapping, felony conspiracy to kidnap, and felony conspiracy, human trafficking.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said the teen met one of the suspects online before disappearing from her home in Spring Lake.

During a press conference Thursday, Philip VanWyngarden, an FBI assistant special agent in charge, said cases like this are less about the geographic location or upbringing of the child and more about predators targeting children in the online space.

“Wherever children are on the internet, predators will find them on the internet,” VanWyngarden said.

According to a Harnett County incarceration report, Cole is being held on a $1 million secured bond and Mahler is being held on a $1.5 million secured bond.

President William Ruto on Sunday addressed a recent newspaper headline that labeled him a cunning leader.

Speaking during a church service at Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu, Nairobi, Ruto argued that the Standard Newspaper headline ‘Cunning Ruto’ was inspired by recent political developments where his opponents had attempted to orchestrate his failure yet he managed to navigate through the challenges successfully.

According to Ruto, certain individuals—whom he did not name—had hoped to see him fail but he managed to overcome their efforts and emerge victorious.

”If you read today’s newspaper (the Standard), the headline states that Ruto is very cunning. I want to tell them that am not as cunning as they think. This is the grace of God that is leading me. We believe in God,” Ruto stated.

“Because I escaped the traps that they set, they say that am cunning. That is not the case, I am just doing what Abraham did in the bible. He trusted in God even when things were tough. It is not what you are saying, it is God’s favour.”

The Standard‘s Sunday edition ran a headline reading “Cunning Ruto,” describing his current political maneuvering, including early campaigning, as the country heads toward the 2027 general elections.

The subheadline further stated, “That the country is in a quandary is obvious. However, the President has become an expert at using a smoke screen, hoping the problems will fade away.

He has tried to explain himself and engage in early campaigns to divert attention, but the issues continue to pile up.”

In the story run by the Standard, the publication stated that for two years Ruto has been in office, he has mastered the art of using distractions to divert Kenyans’ attention away from the numerous scandals and crises that have plagued his administration.

Additionally, it suggested that crises have hit several sectors, including health, education, security, energy, transportation, and diplomacy, with some being significant enough to potentially destabilise the government.

”The head of state has perfected the art of generating “bombshells” that capture public attention, even as significant events unfold unnoticed around them,” it added.

Police responded to a call regarding a fire at a residence at around 1:46 a.m. on July 1, 2023. When they arrived at the home, they found a deceased 79-year-old man on the second floor of the burning home with signs of blunt force trauma and stab wounds.

Police also found a bloody knife and two cell phones near the victim’s body, one of which belonged to the man’s roommate, 37-year-old Nichole Maks, who was not in the area when officers arrived.

Officers found Maks at around 3 a.m. walking without shoes near a restaurant, holding a knife and hammer. The officer that found her said she had blood on her leg and on her shirt, which was ripped.

Police asked Maks where she lived and if she knew the victim, and she said she had been homeless for four years and did not know the man. She eventually admitted that she did know him and lived with him for a short time, but that she did not see him often, at which point she also admitted she was not homeless.

Maks was taken into custody for questioning, and said that she had never entered the victim’s room before but occasionally went to the second floor to “feed her spiders,” per authorities.

When officers told Maks they were going to take a DNA sample from her, she asked for a Diet Mountain Dew. They gave it to her, but she “began to procrastinate” while drinking the soda until a detective eventually tried to take it away from her.

“Maks began to resist and began pouring the can of soda all over her body and hair and pulling away from officers in attempts to interfere with the possible evidence on Maks’ body,” said a probable cause affidavit obtained by Law&Crime.

“Maks then began pulling and kicking officers while trying to secure Maks in the vehicle.

Due to Maks’ actions, she was charged with tampering with evidence and resisting with violence.”

Maks was arrested in 2023, and on Feb. 27, 2025 she pleaded no contest to second-degree murder, resisting with violence, arson of a dwelling, and tampering with physical evidence. She was sentenced to 35 years in prison, the minimum for her charges

The State Department approved Israel’s purchase of Caterpillar D9 Bulldozers and related equipment for an estimated cost of $295 million. Deliveries by the Irving, Texas-based company are expected to begin in 2027.

The Defense Security Cooperation released a statement confirming a munitions sale to Israel for an estimated cost of $675.7 million. Repkon USA, located in Tampa, Florida, and The Boeing Company, located in St. Charles, Missouri, will manufacture the equipment, which is estimated to be delivered to Israel beginning in 2028.

The Trump Administration approved a $3 billion arms sale to Israel that includes over 35,500 bombs, thousands of warheads, and hundreds of armored bulldozers.

In a series of notifications sent to Congress late Friday, the State Department said it had signed off on the sale of more than 35,500 MK 84 and BLU-117 bombs and 4,000 Predator warheads worth $2.04 billion.

The arms sale comes as the first phase of the ceasefire, which paused 15 months of war, freed Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and enabled more humanitarian aid to reach Gaza, is set to expire on Saturday.

The two sides seem willing to maintain their truce while negotiators from the U.S., Egypt and Qatar guide talks aimed at getting to the next phase.

The parties were supposed to have begun ironing out the details of phase two weeks ago. But talks were delayed as the first six weeks of the ceasefire were marred by disputes between Israel and Hamas over alleged violations of the deal.

Under the terms of the truce that began in Jan. 19, the second phase would compel Hamas to release all the remaining living hostages from its Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack that triggered the war, in exchange for more Palestinian prisoners in Israel, a lasting ceasefire and a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

Over the past six weeks, Hamas has freed 33 living and dead hostages in exchange for more than 1,700 Palestinian prisoners. The militant group still holds 59 captives, 32 of whom are believed to be dead.

A woman who was found dead in the trunk of a car was allegedly killed by her 24-year-old son, who officers arrested after a chase and a three-vehicle crash.

El Cajon Police Department (ECPD) gave details in a news release, including the fact that the incident came to investigators’ attention after another of the woman’s sons discovered the body and reported it to 911.

Law enforcement became aware of the situation when officers went to the Motel 6 on Montrose Court in El Cajon, California after getting a call from a man who said he had gone to the business to check on his mother, 51-year-old Jamison Webster.

The caller told police he became concerned when she didn’t return home after visiting his brother, 24-year-old Richard Leyva.

That, police said, was when the man who called 911 discovered her body in the trunk of her car, a black Hyundai Sonata.

After the discovery, the men then began fighting, police said Wednesday, and Leyva jumped into his mother’s car and drove off, striking his brother with the vehicle in his escape. Police said his brother wasn’t hurt by the car, however.

When officers found the Sonata near Madison and Magnolia avenues, Leyva refused to stop, prompting a pursuit through El Cajon and Spring Valley.

Leyva then returned to El Cajon, according to investigators, where he crashed into two vehicles near Interstate 8 on North Mollison Avenue. Officers used a taser on Leyva to aid in taking him into custody.

Officers then discovered Webster’s lifeless body in the trunk when searching the car. Police have not yet released her manner of death.

Leyva has been booked into San Diego County Jail and has been charged with homicide, assault with a deadly weapon and evading law enforcement.
