At about 4:02 p.m., sheriff’s say deputies were dispatched to a home in the 2200 block of 165th Street East in Spanaway, Washington for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found a man suffering from a gunshot wound inside the home.

They performed CPR until fire personnel pronounced the victim as deceased.

The victim was identified as Darryl Henderson.

The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Vendell Edward Henderson.

Vendell’s mother reported to 911 that her son shot his father. His mother said that Vendell drove off in his Toyota Camry.

Darryl’s 14-year-old son brought deputies into the home when they arrived. Darryl was lying on the floor and had two bullet wounds in his chest. Deputies began to perform CPR, and the 14-year-old boy told them that Vendell shot his father. Fire personnel pronounced the man dead at 4:19 p.m.

Deputies spoke to Vendell over the phone, and he sounded like he was crying. He was at a home on 42nd Avenue Court East. He agreed to come out after deputies went to the home. He was then taken into custody.

A man who lives in the home where Vendell surrendered spoke to deputies. The man said that Vendell came to his house unannounced, told him he got into an argument with his father and shot him.

At the shooting scene, Vendell’s 14-year-old brother told deputies that Vendell got into an argument with his father because he was having issues with his baby’s mother. Vendell was upset and allegedly screamed about wanting to shoot people.

The 14-year-old said he heard more arguing and then four gunshots. He allegedly saw Vendell drag their father downstairs and asked for help from their mother, prosecutors wrote. Deputies were advised Vendell placed the gun in his bedroom.

Vendell’s mother also told deputies that her son and Darryl were arguing. This was related to Vendell’s baby’s mother who was holding a party for their son. Darryl told his son to calm down, and that he needed to be there for his own child.

The argument continued and when Vendell went into his room, his mother said that Vendell asked his father to leave him alone. Vendell’s father said they needed to keep having the conversation and they continued to argue.

Right before the shooting, she said Vendell asked his father what he would do if he hurt himself. His father then “got in his face” and told him to “stop talking crazy.”

Vendell told his father to “stop getting in his face” because it was making him mad, she said. His mother told detectives the next thing she knew, Vendell allegedly grabbed the handgun and shot his father twice. She said she witnessed the shooting happen while outside the room.

Vendell’s mother also said her son was diagnosed as bipolar and schizophrenic.

In an interview with detectives, Vendell said he had not slept in three days because of stress and anxiety. He consumed ecstasy and cocaine at a friend’s earlier that morning and went home about 10-11 a.m.

Vendell said the argument with Darryl stemmed from his father giving unsolicited parenting advice. He said his father was absent most of his life due to being in and out of prison. Vendell told detectives just six months ago he pointed a gun at his father during an argument and then checked himself into a psychiatric hospital.

Prior to the shooting, Vendell said, his father stood over him, talking about his responsibilities and telling him that he needed to move out of the home. Vendell said they continued to argue for 3 to 5 minutes before he got the gun from under his pillow and allegedly shot his father.

Vendell allegedly said he shot his father in hopes of making him stop. He then attempted to load his father in his car to take him to the hospital but stopped at the front door.

Prosecutors charged Vendell with two counts of second-degree murder and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

On December 31, a plea of not guilty was entered on Vendell’s behalf during his arraignment. Pierce County Superior Court Judge pro tempore Jack Nevin set Vendell’s bail at $1.5 million.

Andrew Castro pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including predatory criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse, and child exploitation.

Castro, who worked at Federico Lora Elementary, built inappropriate relationships with three male victims over several years, according to prosecutors. His grooming tactics included attending their sporting events, taking them to malls and movies, and inviting them into his home, where the abuse occurred.

In a related civil case, the Chicago Public Schools reached a $2 million settlement with the families last year.

“While we are happy there has been another significant step toward resolution in this case, there is still a long road of recovery for the abused in this case,” said Larry Disparti, founder of Disparti Law Group, which represented the victims.

Disparti also highlighted broader concerns about abuse in the school system, noting that the Chicago Public Schools Office of the Inspector General Sexual Allegations Unit (SAU) has handled over 2,000 cases since its inception. In its February 2024 report, the SAU documented a 12% rise in abuse reports.

“It is not acceptable that there is a single case of sexual abuse in our school system,” Disparti said. “Our children deserve better.”

A suburban Indianapolis couple was arrested Wednesday on charges alleging that they took part in the 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Arthur Reyher, 38, and Jessica Reyher, 38, were arrested in Indiana on a felony civil disorder charge and four misdemeanors, prosecutors said in a news release.

The Brownsburg residents, who were charged in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, appeared Wednesday in federal court in Indianapolis. They were released without bond, told to surrender their passports and to restrict their travel, WISH-TV reported.

Online court records do not list attorneys who could speak the Reyhers’ behalf.

A criminal complaint alleges the couple was among the first group of rioters to enter the tunnel areas of the Capitol, The Indianapolis Star reported.

Online court records do not list attorneys who could speak the Reyhers’ behalf.

A criminal complaint alleges the couple was among the first group of rioters to enter the tunnel areas of the Capitol, The Indianapolis Star reported.

They allegedly entered the tunnel near the Capitol’s Lower West Terrace three separate times on Jan. 6, 2021, joining others pushing against police officers while trying to enter the Capitol. The complaint alleges the mob’s pushing pinned one officer against a shield and a door, causing him pain.

Arthur Reyher was seen on officer body camera footage and surveillance cameras chanting “Our House” as they pushed, the complaint alleges. The pushing continued for several minutes until police shoved the rioters, including the Reyhers, out of the area.

Investigators said an anonymous tipster told them the Reyhers were posting on Facebook about their involvement in the riot.

Arthur Reyher allegedly told law enforcement he and his wife were at the Capitol, and said he believed former President Donald Trump lost the election because of voter fraud.

A 12-year-old girl has died after she was playing with a gun and it discharged on the city’s South Side, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The shooting happened around 6:50 p.m. Sunday on the 7100 block of South Constance in the South Shore neighborhood.

Police said the girl was inside an apartment when she sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was transported in critical condition to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The medical examiner has identified the girl as Priscilla McCullough.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports the girl’s mother told officers that Priscilla was in a bathroom playing with a gun when it fired. The mother was allegedly bathing her 1-year-old in another bathroom at the time of the shooting.

The gun, which reportedly belongs to the mother, was recovered at the scene by police. The Sun-Times said the mother told officers it is usually kept in a locked safe in a bedroom.

Alexis Schuler, 29, was last seen Jan. 10 in Washington, but she wasn’t reported missing until last Tuesday. By then, it is alleged 30-year-old Devontae Gray had shot and killed the mother of three then hid her body inside a plastic storage bin, which he encased in cinder blocks and concrete, according to court documents.

Police say Gray then concealed the “makeshift tomb” under a stairway behind a newly constructed wall of lumber, drywall and faux bricks in his home in Capitol Heights, Maryland.

Gray was the father of one of Schuler’s children and her on-again, off-again boyfriend. Detectives believe the killing occurred during a dispute.

There was a history of domestic violence with the couple. Gray previously accused Schuler of abuse, calling police as recently as Jan. 9 to report he was in fear and may shoot her if she entered his house.

Schuler’s cousin, Derrick Felder, says she was the actual victim, and domestic violence should not be ignored.

“Alexis’ story is a painful reminder this is not what love looks like. Someone who truly loves you would never do what Devontae Gray did to her. Please take domestic violence seriously,” he said.

Gray was taken into custody and has reportedly confessed to the murder. He is charged with first-degree murder and related offenses.

An Indiana man is behind bars in Tennessee for murdering his girlfriend and their unborn child, police in the Volunteer State say.

Vidol Wegner, 29, currently stands accused of two counts of murder in the first degree and one count of felony murder, according to a press release issued by the Spring Hill Police Department.

The defendant allegedly initially admitted to strangling Nevills with “both hands around the neck and his forearm,” according to an arrest affidavit obtained by Nashville-based NBC affiliate WSMV.

The alleged killer is the person who called 911 dispatch, police say.

The defendant requested a welfare check on Ariel Nicole Nevills, 30. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found the woman “had sustained fatal wounds.” She was seven months pregnant at the time.

Details about the slaying have come from various court documents — and even directly from a local media interview with Wegner himself.

In a jailhouse interview with Nashville-based ABC affiliate WKRN, Wegner offered his own recollection of the fatal events. In the ensuing discussion, the defendant appears to hedge, vacillate, and give confusing, vague, or even contradictory answers.

Reporter Andy Cordan asked: “Did you kill her?”

“I…what did I do?” Wegner answered — before taking a long pause and looking down.

Then the alleged killer resumed: “No, dude, I didn’t. She did it to herself. I told her this is the way. I had a beautiful future set up for us. She wanted to act crazy. She chose this. It didn’t have to be this way.”

Wegner “did admit to murdering his girlfriend” and “stated that he strangled Nevills two different ways,” according to a warrant filed in a Maury County Court and obtained by news website Williamson Scene.

Police also, however, said Nevills suffered stab wounds, according to Nashville-based Fox and The CW affiliate WZTV.

The killing occurred at a house on Gale Lane in Spring Hill — a medium-sized city located roughly 30 miles south of Nashville, which sits in both Maury and Williamson counties. The defendant was first detained by Roberts County Sheriff’s Office deputies and then transferred to Spring Hill police.

To which Wegner replied: “Listen, when I started that relationship, I told her, ‘If we get pregnant, are we going to do something about it?’ She said, ‘Yeah.’ She found out 10 weeks in; she said, ‘I want to keep it.’ I’m like, ‘Didn’t we have that conversation? I’m not doing this.’ She said, ‘Yeah.’”

Cordan pressed: “Are you missing her at all and missing, perhaps, even getting a chance to meet that little baby?”

Wegner replied: “Listen, I loved her. I would have took care of her, the baby; I would have took care of her siblings that she wanted to take with us. I would have done all of that.”

The former parliamentary diary manager from Hockley, Essex, had no family history of cancer, and like many young people, had never imagined that a health crisis like this could strike him.

‘I was living my life in London, enjoying my career, going out for drinks after work, and then one day it all just stopped,’ he told MailOnline, his voice still tinged with disbelief.

In July 2019, Charlie had his first seizure while in his room at home: ‘That was very traumatic for my mum, I imagine, to find me having a seizure in my room. I didn’t remember anything though,’ Charlie recalled, clearly shaken by the moment.

Rushed to Southend University Hospital, doctors initially suspected meningitis, but a scan revealed something far worse – a grade 2 astrocytoma, a rare brain tumour.

He underwent surgery the following month at Queen’s Hospital in Romford to remove the tumour.

Although his recovery was complicated by an infection in his bone flap, requiring another surgery six months later, Charlie pushed forward with unwavering determination.

For four years, he lived under regular scans, every six months at first, then annually.

And for a time, things seemed to be going well: ‘I was flying professionally,’ Charlie said, ‘I went back to work, even got promoted. I thought I was on the other side of it.’

In July 2023, Charlie suffered another seizure, this time on the Jubilee Line in London: ‘I could feel it coming on. My arms started feeling strange, and I knew something was wrong.

‘A paramedic was luckily waiting on the platform and quickly recognized what was happening. He shouted, ‘He’s having a seizure,’ and that’s all I remember before blacking out.’

When Charlie woke up, he was in St Thomas’ Hospital: ‘I didn’t have the results yet, which was probably a good thing.

‘It meant I could enjoy my holiday with Ollie, my partner, before the real nightmare began,’ he said, reflecting on a trip to Portugal just before the full impact of his condition set in.

On holiday, Charlie began experiencing new symptoms: facial drooping, loss of speech, and a limp: ‘I didn’t want to believe it, but I knew something was seriously wrong.’

Back in London, scans revealed that his original tumour had transformed into something far more aggressive: a glioblastoma (GBM).
