]]>3 Thomasville day care employees charged in assault on 3-year-old child; according to police:
The assault happened on Feb. 10 at Kid City Day Care Center, located on Fisher Ferry Street, while the child was under the facility’s care.
The child’s mother reported to police that her son had been assaulted and suffered injuries on his first day attending the facility.
The following day, detectives visited the daycare to follow up on the report. The owner and employees stated that while cameras were present at the facility, they were not recording.
A search warrant was subsequently executed at the business, leading detectives to seize the DVR recording device for examination.
Once detectives obtained the extracted video surveillance from the DVR, they immediately shared their findings with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS). In response, NCDHHS took emergency action and closed the facility.
On Wednesday, detectives took Faye Burchett, 79; Sheila Walker, 60; and Haley Dalhover, 23, into custody. Each was charged with misdemeanor child abuse, assault on a child under 12, and felonious obstruction of justice.
All three received a $100,000 secured bond and were placed in the Davidson County Jail.
Anyone with information related to this incident or any other incidents at Kid City Daycare is urged to contact the Thomasville Police Department at (336) 475-4260.

]]>A man from Utah accused of making online threats to shoot up a prominent Manhattan synagogue was stopped Friday evening at the Lincoln Tunnel on the way into New York City, according to police sources.
Luis Ramirez had been stopped earlier on his road trip in Kansas City where police discovered a firearm, according to police sources.
He did not have any weapons when he was stopped by the NYPD and Port Authority Police on Friday.
The online threats were made in a post on Ramirez’s X account.
Police believed he was on his way to the Central Synagogue in midtown Manhattan. A senior official stressed there was no explicit, direct threat made to Central Synagogue itself, although Ramirez did allegedly mention he might go there.
It appeared that Ramirez would face state charges coming from the Manhattan district attorney’s office, according to police officials.
He made it as far as the New Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel, where he was stopped by Port Authority Police around 5:30 p.m.
Ramirez was taken into custody in New Jersey, and police were searching his car, though there were no immediate signs of any weapons, police officials said. Authorities were also hoping to gain access to his phone to potentially learn more about the alleged threats.
The investigation was still in its early stages. Law enforcement said it did not appear Ramirez had any sort of organized plot to attack.

]]>A Colorado teacher has been sentenced to four years in prison for engaging in a sexual relationship with an underage special needs student, sending him “thousands” of messages, instructing him to bring a gun to class to shoot a colleague, and introducing him to fentanyl.
School authorities immediately contacted the Lakewood Police Department. During the investigation, it was found that 28-year-old Kay Ewer, a former paraprofessional at Brady Exploration School, sent thousands of messages to the student and also instructed him to bring a gun to class to shoot a colleague. She also introduced the student to drugs, alcohol, and firearms, The NY Post reported.
First Judicial District Attorney’s Office Special Victims Prosecutor Brynn Chase uncovered several pieces of evidence of a disturbing sexual relationship between the pair. Prosecutors said that Ewer sent messages to the student, referencing multiple sexual encounters and asked the boy to bring a gun to school to shoot another faculty member in the leg.
The hearing for the case was held on January 31, where the victim’s mother said she trusted the teacher, adding Ewer led her son to believe she genuinely cared for him while exploiting him for money and manipulating him into thinking he was “the one.” According to the District Attorney’s office, Ewer apologised to the victim’s family in court as she stood before the judge.
“I’m really sorry; this will never happen again,” she said, as per the office.
A month before her trial was scheduled to begin, Ewer pleaded guilty to sexual assault on a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, both felonies. She was sentenced to four years in prison on January 31. She faces a minimum of 10 years of probation as a sexual offender, which, if successfully completed, could result in a life sentence.
