A man wanted for an ambush-style slaying in Philadelphia last fall was arrested Friday after trying to evade capture by pushing an air conditioner from a second-story window and leaping out, police said.
Carlos Morales, 27, was arrested by the NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force – Albany, a consortium of regional agencies coordinated by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Authorities learned that Morales, described as one of the most wanted fugitives in Philadelphia, had fled to Albany and was living with a woman in the 300 block of Orange Street, in the city’s Sheridan Hollow neighborhood, according to a narrative provided by the marshals.
Following his apprehension in the building’s courtyard, members of the task force seized seized 125 grams of fentanyl and 73 grams of crack cocaine, with a combined street value of more than $15,000, along with more than $5,000 cash from the apartment, police said.
He was expected to be arraigned by a judge in Albany later Friday, police said.
Morales was wanted in Philadelphia for the October 2020 daytime shooting death of 24-year-old Thomas Peterson. After emerging from behind a parked vehicle, Morales fired several shots at Peterson, then chased and continued to shoot at him, police said.
A homicide warrant was issued for Morales’ arrest after he was later identified from the video, according to the marshals service.
