Canadian busted for ransomware attacks in North America after two-year probe
A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of ransomware attacks in the USA & Canada that targeted businesses, govt agencies and private individuals – Ontario police have confirmed.
The US claims Matthew Philbert damaged a computer in Alaska in April 2018. He faces one U.S. count of conspiracy to commit fraud and another of fraud.
Canada’s signals intelligence agency said earlier this week that global ransomware attacks increased by 151% in the first half of 2021 compared to the previous year.
