Schooling has come to a halt at Cambridge High School and other learning centres following instructions from police to go into lockdown.
A police spokesperson told Newshub they received reports of a male with a weapon at around 10:40am on Monday.
Police asked Cambridge High School, nearby schools and early childhood centres to go into lockdown as police work to locate the male.

Police are in attendance on Waipa Rd in Cambridge.
In a post on Facebook, the school said all students are safe in their classrooms and will remain locked down until police give further instructions.
The post-added exams that were due to begin this afternoon have been cancelled, and students that aren’t currently at school should stay away.
Cambridge High School urged parents to not enter the ground until the lockdown has lifted.
Cambridge Middle School also urged parents to not come to the school, email or phone while the school is in lockdown.
