Agents nabbed 10 illegal immigrants last weekend who have violent criminal histories for murder, rape, as well as drug and weapons trafficking.
Agents across the southern border nabbed 10 individuals, who were in the country illegally over the weekend. Those arrested had a “violent” criminal past.
U.S. Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens noted in his post on X that their history included murder, rape and trafficking of drugs and weapons.
So far in FY 2024, more than 6,400 individuals with criminal convictions have been apprehended.
Among those apprehensions, there were 178 individuals that had gang affiliations, according to Owens.
Agents in El Paso, Texas near the U.S.-Mexico arrested 10 admitted violent cartel and gang members from Venezuela, El Salvador and Mexico over the weekend.
Details of those recently arrested were not provided in the Owens’ post.
Data collected by Border Patrol showed there was a decline in arrests for illegal crossings.
Overall, arrests in January dropped by 50% from 249,735 in December, the highest monthly tally on record.
Tucson, Arizona, was again the busiest sector for illegal crossings with 50,565 arrests, down 37% from December, followed by San Diego. Arrests in the Border Patrol’s Del Rio sector plummeted 76% from December to 16,712, the lowest since December 2021. Arrests in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley, dropped 60% to 7,340, the lowest since July 2020.
