Blood Shortage Leaves US Hospitals Struggling to Meet Patients’ Needs

Health workers are warning the “severity and duration” of blood shortages could “significantly jeopardize” patients.

The American Red Cross says it has “less than a one-day supply of critical blood types,” and the US is facing its worst shortage in over a decade.

The pandemic has seen a 10% decline in people donating, in addition to canceling ongoing blood drives and staffing limitations
