RawNews1st – The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in the connection to the murder of Stephen Lawrence Scott, Jr. who was shot and killed on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, while in the 1700 block of Aspen Run.
The suspect has been identified as:
Lavell Onterria Burton, (19), B/M, of Birmingham, AL.
Birmingham Police Detectives presented information on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Capital Murder, Attempt Murder, Robbery 1st Degree, and Discharging into an Occupied Vehicle.
Burton is in the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office where he will be held without bond for the Capital Murder charge and bonds totaling $180,000 for the other charges.
