Bill Gates predicts Covid-19 mortality rate
Assuming there are no new lethal variants between now and the middle of 2022, Covid deaths and infection rates may drop below seasonal flu rates thanks to vaccines – according to Bill Gates.
“The vaccines are very good news, and the supply constraints will be largely solved as we get out in the middle of next year, and so we’ll be limited by the logistics and the demand,” Gates told a virtual Bloomberg interview.
The Microsoft founder did concede it wasn’t clear what the demand for vaccines would be from different countries, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, and urged the world to eradicate flu as well to ward off future pandemic threats.
According to the World Health Organization, influenza kills up to 650,000 people each year. At least 5mn people have reportedly died from Covid-19 since the pandemic began in late 2019.
