Biden Agrees to Visit Israel for the First Time Since Taking Office
President Biden spoke with Israeli Premier Naftali Bennett on Sunday (April 24), and agreed to an invitation to visit Israel, with an eye toward discussing cooperation on Iran.
Though both sides confirmed the invitation was accepted, no date was set for the visit. Early indications are that the visit is likely in the next few months.
This will be Biden’s first visit to Israel since taking office, and in that sense it’s not surprising that a visit will happen. If anything, it would be more strange for him to not visit.
With the likelihood that this is months out, and will focus at least in part on Iran, the big question is what this will mean for Iran talks in the interim.
Deals are reportedly close, but with the US talking up a deadline, it would be difficult if Biden wanted to hold off on a decision until after his Israel visit.
