ELIMINATE Invaders”: Beijing FUMING after reports Washington stationed commandos secretly in Taiwan
A small unit of US special ops forces have been based in Taiwan for at least a year to train local military forces, the WSJ revealed Thursday.
The revelation infuriated China, with editor-in-chief of China’s English Global Times taking to Twitter to taunt the US, “Why secretly? … Send 240 servicemen publicly, in US military uniform, and make public where they are stationed,” before adding “See whether the PLA will launch a targeted air strike to eliminate those US invaders!”
Beijing has indicated it would retaliate swiftly and immediately to any indication the US deployed military forces to Taiwan, which it claims is the territory of China.
