On October 22, 2024 at about 1:39 a.m., police say officers responded to the area of Glenside Road in Millville, New Jersey for a report of a person who had apparently been hit by a vehicle.
The woman’s body was found two hour after by a passing motorist. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim was identified as 21-year-old Caroline Bump.
Authorities said they were searching for a 2003 Silver Infinity G35 with New Jersey registration E41-RLB.
On October 24, authorities said 22-year-old Breanna Rowley was wanted for questioning. But they didn’t say whether she was a suspect. Investigators found that Rowley took steps to conceal her vehicle’s damage.
Allegedly, Rowley accelerated her car and hit Bump as she stood in the roadway.
Rowley and Bump knew each other and were together before the incident. Authorities haven’t disclosed a motive or any details about the nature of their relationship.
On October 25, Rowley was initially charged with hindering apprehension (third-degree), obstruction of law (fourth-degree) and tampering with evidence (fourth-degree).
On November 7, Rowley was charged with murder (first-degree), vehicular homicide (second-degree), leaving the scene of a deadly accident (second-degree), endangering an injured victim (third-degree), possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (third-degree), unlawful possession of a weapon (fourth-degree) and an additional count of obstruction of law.
Rowley is incarcerated in the Salem County Jail with a detention hearing pending.
