Developer Arrowhead said this linking requirement was made optional when the game released at the beginning of February due to technical issues.

However, that initial “grace period” for Helldivers 2 players on Steam is now over, and on Friday, Helldivers 2’s publisher Sony announced that players on Steam will soon be required to link to a PlayStation Network (PSN) account.

As we reported yesterday, Sony’s opaque messaging has further confused things. On the website page that explains how to sign in to PSN when playing a game on PC in the UK, it now says that “some PlayStation games may require you sign in and link to an account for PSN”, but the US version of the same page advises that “signing in to PSN is optional when playing a PlayStation game on PC”.

“Account linking provides a consistent and reliable means of reporting, moderation, actioning and appeal for ALL Helldivers 2 players,” a community manager told the community via Discord yesterday as a justification for the directive.

“We take online safety seriously and this is our main way to protect players from griefing and abuse: by enabling the banning and suspension of players that engage in that type of behaviour.

By linking accounts, you have the benefit of our extensive support team infrastructure for reporting these bad actors (and our appeals process if you are banned/suspended). This all helps us to make Helldivers 2 a safer and more enjoyable space for everyone.”

At the time of writing, it appears Sony is refusing to refund players unhappy with the directive (although some players maintain Steam has), and developer Arrowhead has not commented on the issue openly on social media. It is, however, providing some updates to players via its official Discord, which includes a reminder that “PSN requires users to register in their country or territory of residence”.

“Ouch, right in the review score,” wrote Helldivers 2 creative director and Arrowhead CEO, Johan Pilestedt, on Twitter yesterday.

KPD releases bodycam of William McBride Jr. deadly police shooting at Fountain City gas station.

An officer told Beeler he was going to get “crime scene stuff” while McBride was being searched.

KPD said both knives were recovered from the gas station, and a still frame from the bodycam video showed they had been dropped near the SUV’s tire.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting, and KPD said its Office of Professional Standards is also conducting an internal, administrative investigation to tell if Beeler followed KPD’s procedures and policies.

KPD said District Attorney General Charme Allen’s office will make a determination on the shooting once the TBI finishes its investigation.

KPD said there was additional body camera video taken of officers providing medical assistance to McBride, but said that video was not included Wednesday and won’t be released until after the TBI finishes its investigation and the DA makes a determination.

McBride was 41 years old and was declared dead after being taken to a hospital. His family said he had graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor of science in social work.

His family also described him as a military veteran who struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder since returning from overseas and said he turned to drug use to cope with his PTSD.

Joshua Dean, who lived in Wichita, Kansas, and was formerly a quality auditor for the company, had an infection that came on suddenly and quickly spread, The Seattle Times reported.

He was airlifted from ​​a hospital in Wichita to another facility in Oklahoma City, but medical teams were unable to save his life. He was 45.

Dean’s aunt, Carol Parsons, told the newspaper that he spent two weeks in critical condition. He had gone to the hospital after having trouble breathing and was later intubated and developed pneumonia and MRSA.

The news comes as Boeing’s safety culture is under intense scrutiny after a 737 MAX 9 lost a section of fuselage during a January Alaska Airlines flight. Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun recently announced he will step down by the end of the year.

Democratic Lawmaker Indicted on Bribery and Foreign Influence Charges

The Justice Department on Friday (May 3) released an indictment against longtime Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, and his wife, Imelda, charging the pair with bribery and money laundering related to their ties with a bank in Mexico and an oil and gas company controlled by Azerbaijan.

NBC News was first to report that the charges were coming.

The congressman and his wife were each released on a $100,000 bond after a first appearance in federal court in Houston, a DOJ spokesperson said Friday afternoon.

According to the indictment, from 2014 to 2021, the Cuellars allegedly accepted roughly $600,000 in bribes from the two foreign entities in exchange for the congressman performing official acts.

“The bribe payments were allegedly laundered, pursuant to sham consulting contracts, through a series of front companies and middlemen into shell companies owned by Imelda Cuellar, who performed little to no legitimate work under the contracts,” the DOJ said in a statement.

Allison Griswold, formerly a teacher at Crisp Academy, was arrested Wednesday afternoon after deputies began investigating allegations of an improper sexual relationship between a teacher and a juvenile, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office said a woman, and former teacher, was arrested for aggravated child molestation on Wednesday.

During the investigation, the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division found evidence, leading to the 38-year-old’s arrest.

The sheriff’s office said Griswold was fired from her job “moments before the arrest.”

Griswold, of Cordele, was charged with:

• Aggravated Child Molestation – Felony
• Improper Sexual Contact by Employee – Felony
• (2) Counts Obscene Telephone Contact with a Child
• Carrying Weapons Within School Safety Zone

2 men accused of stealing more than $6K in gift cards and merchandise from Iona Target

The two men reportedly walked into Target on San Carlos Boulevard and convinced a cashier that they worked for Target corporate.

Reports say the men told the cashier to ring everything up as cash, including 12 gift cards valued at $500 each, as well as clothes and toys.

The duo reportedly walked out of the store with $6,100 in items without paying.

SWFL Crime Stoppers says a cash reward is possible if you can identify the two men.

Jeffrey Epstein is going to name names — again.

A mysterious “black book” believed to belong to the late pedophile financier, which revealed the names and addresses of 221 previously undisclosed people, is going up for auction — and bidders are being assured that their identities will be kept secret.

It could fetch up to $200,000 — or more, the auction house owner told the Daily Beast, which first reported the story…

The book was reportedly found on Fifth Avenue in the East Village by a female musician in the 1990s, but how it came to be there remains unclear to this day.

What is clear is that the book names 349 people — 221 of whom were not named in a later, more famous “black book” that Epstein kept.

The book was the subject of an in-depth investigation by Business Insider in 2021.

Many of the people contacted by Insider said their relationship with Epstein was either fleeing or nonexistent…

The address book, believed to be from 1997, will go up for private sale by Alexander Historical Auctions, along with a forensic examiner’s report verifying its authenticity, on May 15.

In 2015, the now-defunct blog Gawker leaked the contents of Epstein’s first, more recent black book with names including Michael Bloomberg, Bill Clinton, Trump, Mick Jagger and Prince Andrew.

News of the black book auction comes just five months after dozens of notable names — including royalty, politicians and famous scientists — appeared in an avalanche of previously sealed court documents related to the convicted pedophile.
