At least 8 DEAD as Hurricane Ida SMASHES into New York City area – many more missing
Massive flash flooding caused by the remnants of the hurricane wreaked havoc in the northeast of US:
▪️8 people are confirmed dead – 7 in NYC and 1 in New Jersey
▪️280,000 people WITHOUT power in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania
▪️More than 60mn people throughout the northeast are under flash flood watches
▪️Tornadoes reported in New Jersey and Pennsylvania
▪️NYC suspended the subway and banned all non-emergency vehicles from the roads until 5am
▪️Mayor Bill de Blasio declared a state of emergency just before 11:30pm Wednesday – warning people to “stay inside”
▪️3.1 inches of rain fell in 1-hour in Central Park – shattering a record set only last week when 1.94 inches fell during Tropical Storm Henri.
