SURPRISE, AZ — Police said one person has been detained in Surprise following multiple reported shootings Thursday afternoon in the West Valley.
The Surprise Police Department confirmed two people were hurt in a shooting near 115th Avenue and Bell Road. One person has life-threatening injuries, and a second person was said to have non-life-threatening injuries.
Around 12:30 p.m., Surprise police said in a tweet that they were investigating an “active police situation” and shooting near 115th Avenue and Bell. About 45 minutes later, police said officers made a traffic stop on the alleged suspect’s vehicle and detained one person.
Both Peoria and Surprise police said they believe the suspect is connected to the shootings in other cities.
In a separate tweet, Peoria police said the suspect was connected to “several shootings” in the West Valley, though details on all of those shootings weren’t entirely clear.
Police have not released any further details, such as what led up to the shooting, how many people are injured, if any, or if they were looking for more than one suspect.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said it was investigating after a vehicle was shot at, near Loop 303 and El Mirage. Troopers were still assessing the situation, a DPS spokesperson said.
