Aranza Maria Ochoa Lopez, an 8-year-old who had been missing since October 2018, has been recovered in Michoacán, Mexico.
The FBI was able to locate the girl last month and safely return her to the United States, where her location is not currently being disclosed for her own safety and privacy, the FBI said in a statement Wednesday.
“For more than four years, the FBI and our partners did not give up on Aranza,” said Richard Collodi, special agent in charge of the FBI Seattle. “Our concern now will be supporting Aranza as she begins her reintegration into the U.S.”
Aranza was in a shopping mall in Vancouver, Wash., when she was abducted by her biological mother, Esmeralda Lopez-Lopez, reports ABC News.
