Angel Guerrero, 22, had a warrant out for his arrest for failure to appear in court for a pretrial hearing on the kidnapping case. A man affiliated with the Hermanos Pistoleros Latinos prison gang has been arrested in relation to the kidnapping of two migrants in 2019, according to authorities.
He had been on the lam since Feb. 4, 2021, until his arrest on Jan. 10 by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Guerrero had been indicted on two counts of aggravated kidnapping for ransom/reward on Aug. 5, 2020.
The case dates back to Sept. 18, 2019. At about 7:37 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received information about an immigrant being held for ransom at a home in the 2600 block Napoleon Street. With the assistance of the U.S. Border Patrol, deputies approached the residence and encountered two migrants, 60 and 20, from Queretaro, Mexico inside a bedroom.
An investigation revealed they had crossed the border illegally two nights prior when two people armed with assault rifles forced them into a sport utility vehicle and drove them to the home on Napoleon, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
“The (migrants) were forced to contact their families to send money to the two male subjects in order to be released,” states the arrest affidavit.
Authorities would identify the suspects as Jesus Chaires and Guerrero, both affiliates of the HPL prison gang, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Charges against Chaires were dismissed in March 2021.
Sheriff’s officials said their families had already sent $4,000 for their release, but the suspects wanted more money.
