On Thursday afternoon, an officer was injured while responding to a shooting on Chicago’s South Side.

A 25-year-old man was approached by multiple unknown offenders near a commercial business in the 8700 block of South State at about 1:38 p.m., according to Chicago police.

One of the offenders pulled out a handgun and fired several shots.

The man was hit in the arm and was taken to a nearby hospital in good condition.

The perpetrators fled the scene.

While responding to the incident, Chicago police officers were confronted by an unknown individual near the crime scene, and a scuffle ensued, according to police. An officer was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The individual was apprehended. Charges are being considered.
