A woman’s ex-boyfriend has been accused of killing her over the weekend on a Loop CTA platform.
Less than 14 hours after police claimed Alejandro Arellano, 31, stabbed a 26-year-old woman with whom he had a “previous dating history,” Arellano was taken into custody.
The 26-year-old lady was captured on surveillance footage ascending the steps to the Adams and Wabash CTA platform at around 1:26 a.m.
Surveillance footage showed Arellano approaching her on the station shortly after, following her closely.
Arellano prevented the woman from boarding the approaching train as she approached it, according to the police.
When the victim started to move away from the Arellano, he began to push her.
She was stabbed in the chest, abdomen, and left arm after Arellano took out a metal item, according to the police.
The victim managed to get away and sprinted to street level, where she passed out.
Before she passed away from her wounds in a nearby hospital, the victim was able to inform authorities who had stabbed her, according to police.
About 3 p.m., Arellano was taken into custody in the 1600 block of North Kimball Avenue.
He was accused of committing first-degree murder on one criminal count.
“Although this offender is in custody, there is still a family at the center of this who is grieving the loss of a young woman who had her whole life ahead of her.
We hope knowing that the person responsible for her death has been brought to justice brings a small measure of closure and peace for the family,” said CPD First Deputy Supt. Eric Carter.
The Chicago County medical examiner’s office has not yet given their official identification of the woman.
