An engine propelling a United flight lost power after taking off from Dulles International Airport.
United Airlines Flight 803 was forced to return to Virginia after taking off en route to Tokyo around 12.20pm EST, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
‘We’ve had a United 777 losing engine on departure runway one center,’ an air traffic controller said over the radio system.
The controller added that the plane was about four miles north of the field and would be returning to the runway.
‘Roll the trucks and get them ready,’ the controller added.
A few minutes later, the air traffic controller repeated: ‘This is the tower again… he’s lost an engine. He’s looping around.’
The Sterling Volunteer Fire Department said it was dispatched along with Fairfax County Professional Firefighters and paramedics.
