Alert Statewide goes out that I-71 to and from northern Kentucky is impassible
Drivers heading northbound on I-71 are being urged to avoid the area near Gallatin County.
A mass statewide alert went out to people’s phones and TVs warning them of the issue more than 10 hours after it had been closed on Friday night.
The northbound lanes are blocked due to multiple crashes and backed up for five miles, according to officials.Friday night, TRIMARC said it was closed at exit 62 and had been for the last 12-18 hours.
As of Saturday morning, backed up vehicles are being turned around to travel south on I-71 north to reach Exit 62.Vehicles can then travel southbound on I-71 or go in either direction of US 127.
One lane of I-71south remains open but traffic is slow-moving.Officials said it will take multiple hours to reroute vehicles. Seven miles of the 14-mile backup has been cleared South of US 127 between Mile Marker 55-62.
The remaining backup is north of US 127. Officials continue to advise motorists to avoid the area. A statewide text message was sent alerting drivers to avoid I-71N yesterday evening.

Trucks are said to use I-75 north as an alternative route.
The National Guard has been on the scene helping move stalled vehicles to try and reopen lanes.
