COGGON, Iowa — Several law enforcement agencies are searching for a suspect who shot a Linn County Sheriff’s deputy Sunday evening.
Deputies responded to an armed robbery at the Casey’s store in Coggon around 10:30 p.m. A deputy interrupted the robbery and was shot multiple times inside the store.
The deputy currently is being treated for serious injuries, and was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
A manhunt is underway for the suspect. Officials are looking for a black male, mid-30s, approximately 5’10 to 6’2, approximately 200 to 220 pounds, wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.
The suspect left the store in a van and was pursued by another deputy before crashing the van on North 3rd Street in Coggon. The suspect then fled on foot.

Anyone who lives nearby is encouraged to stay indoors and lock all doors.
As of 1:30 a.m. Monday, portions of Highway 13 in front of this Casey’s location were closed down.
