California – The student entered the Frazier Mountain High School’s barn at around 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 12 to find a horrifying scene, prompting a call to Cindy Holloway, the student’s sponsor.

The pig, Pancho, clung to life for roughly 12 hours before it was finally euthanized by a vet.

“It took us probably close to 30 minutes to get a vein,” Holloway said. “We gave it some sedative, and then we hit it hard with a euthanasia solution. He did close his eyes and died.”

Pancho was taken to a laboratory where researchers discovered 17 lacerations.

“I was in town picking up feed and the voice was pretty shaken,” Holloway said. “The only thing I got out of it was pig and come to the high school, so I obviously raced here.”

Unfortunately for the devastated student, authorities were unable to identify a suspect from the blurry and obstructed view of the barn’s security camera, which has inspired principal Mike Vogenthaler of Frazier Mountain High School to increase security measures.

“Were certainly going to put in whatever security equipment we need that might not necessarily prevent something from happening, but hopefully help catch the people who are doing this,” Vogenthaler said.

Police said that although they were treating the incident as an animal cruelty event, there were a lot of unknown factors in the investigation.

“This pig was 223 pounds,” Holloway said. “They’re very strong, they’re fighters, they don’t die easy. I can guarantee you, this pig fought until he couldn’t fight anymore.”

As the search for a suspect continues, the school started a fundraiser for the student which raised over $1,200.
