According to a press release from the Lorain Police Department, officers responded at 6:45 a.m. to an address in the 1500 block of West 24th Street “for a report of an unresponsive female.”
Officers arrived to find 45-year-old Melinda Green with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Medics attempted lifesaving measures, but Green was pronounced dead at the scene.
“It’s terrifying,” said Danielle Guidaitis, who lives down the street. “I have a 6-month old-child, and the last thing I want is to worry about if a bullet’s going to ricochet and go through a window.”
Investigators identified Green’s 16-year-old son as the suspect. Police said he had left the house before officers arrived but was found within hours walking on Lorain’s west side and taken into custody.
According to police, no guns have been recovered.
“Though an arrest has been made, the investigation remains ongoing,” police said.
“The Lorain Police Department asks that anyone with information related to this incident contact the Lorain Police Detective Bureau at (440) 204-2105.”
